Aerosols

The use of LPG in the aerosol industry has become widespread after other propellants containing Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were banned worldwide due to their greenhouse effect.  Aerosol grade LPG is one of the most preferred propellants for deodorant sprays, air-refreshners, silicon sprays, pesticides and pharmaceutical sprays.  They comprise of a high purity mixture of propane, Isobutane and n-Butane and are free of ozone depleting substances.

LPG by itself is a colorless liquid and a colorless and odorless gas in its vapor form. For reasons of safety, a strong odorant is however deliberately added to the LPG before it leaves the refinery, to make it easily detectable in case of any leakage, however small.  The main industry where de-odorised LPG, or LPG in its natural odourless form is required is in the aerosol industry, where LPG is considered an ideal ’propellant’.  Thus the de-odorisation of LPG for such downstream uses has become crucial for the promotion of LPG use.  In order to avoid any possibility of contamination that could compromise the quality of the product, most LPG de-odorisation plants have completely segregated systems, comprising of dedicated pipelines, pumps and storage tank.  Dedicated bobtails are used specifically for delivery of Aerosol Propellant.

Aerosol grade LPG Propellant Gas can be used in a wide range of applications and most often used in water-free environments or for products with small water content.   Some industry applications include:

  • Perfumes
  • Cosmetics
  • Air-fresheners
  • Pesticides
  • Paints
  • Polishes
  • Food grade packaging material
