Emergency and Disaster Management

Natural disasters are a tragic reality.  They strike frequently and often with very little warning, causing disruption to power and energy networks. This can directly affect hundreds of thousands of people who are often forced to seek temporary accommodation and need  fuel for heating, lighting and cooking.

These natual disasters can come as:
  • Earthquakes
  • Tsunamis
  • Hurricanes, Tornadoes
  • Floods
  • Landslides & Mudslides

but also as

  • Severe Thunderstorms/ Lightning
  • Winter Storms / Ice Storms
  • Large Scale Fires / Wild Fires

Power or energy supplies from centralized distribution networks are interrupted or lost, and natural gas networks get damaged. As a result, key emergency centers, facilities, hospitals etc. are unable to easily activate recovery actions.

Basic needs for cooking, cleaning, hot water, heating at assembly and evacuation centers, become difficult to satisfy. Emergency transport activities to transport people or deliver relief materials are also compromised.

LPG is a decentralized, off grid energy source.  Centralized energy distribution networks are more prone to failure during natural disasters. LPG can be moved easily to the locations where needed and is well suited to emergency or recovery back up activities and systems.  It easily supports the initial basic needs of the affected population.

Cooking appliances and facilities with cylinders or bulk tanks can be run again at a very short time. Emergency lights can run on LPG. Small field LPG cookers are suitable for all forms of emergency, due to its portability and convenience. Mobile LPG-Air systems can replace damaged natural gas networks or sources in vital buildings such as hospitals, top priority facilities, and also industry. Mobile heating and power systems, (combined heat/power systems mCHP) can be employed.  Mobile power electric generators can also provide emergency power.

As automotive fuel on autogas vehicles or dual fuelled autogas vehicles, it allows to keep these vehicles running when other vehicles stop.
